The nGEL project is a collaborative journey towards a more sustainable energy future. Welcome to "The nGEL Innovators", a series dedicated to introducing the key partners of the project. Today, we are presenting to you Zorlu Enerji, the requirement analysis, specification, demonstration and validation leader of the nGEL project.
Zorlu Enerji, a member of Zorlu Energy Group, was established in 1993 in Istanbul, Turkey. In the different areas of the energy sector, such as power generation from renewable sources, electricity trading, electricity retail and distribution services, solar energy solutions, and electric vehicle charging station management. By leveraging their vast knowledge and experience based on the deep-rooted history, Zorlu envisions providing all of their energy production from renewable sources. Zorlu Enerji's total installed capacity is 991 MW. There are four geothermal power plants (305 MWe), seven hydroelectric power plants (119 MWe), two wind farms (191,4 MWe), and one solar power plant (3,8 MWe). Now, they are offering energy solutions in every field, from solar energy to electric vehicles, from charging units to power plants, and from project development to operation.
Role in the nGEL Project:
Zorlu Enerji is leading the requirement analysis and specification (work package 1) and demonstration and validation (work package 4) in the nGEL project.
In the requirement analysis and specification, Zorlu has reviewed and determined the key performance indicators for project success, defined the specifications of the main components for the demonstration activities, conducted preliminary safety analysis for the demonstration activities, and formulated the initial demonstration plan.
In the demonstration and validation part, they will prepare the site for demonstration and integrate the components into the existing geothermal power plant, supply geothermal brine to the heating/cooling solutions, thermal energy storage options and secondary ORC for the demonstration case 1 for geothermal power plant flexibility and demonstration case 2 for increased ORC efficiency. They will also implement the control strategy and energy management system (EMS), and demonstrate and validate the nGEL technology concept.
