As part of the nGEL project’s dissemination activities, two posters were presented at the World Geothermal Congress (WGC) 2026 in Calgary, Canada. As the event is considered the premier global geothermal congress hosted by the International Geothermal Association, people from the global geothermal community gathered at this year’s event, held from June 8-11.Tuğrul Hazar, Assistant Manager at Zorlu Energy Group, attended the meeting physically to present the posters live. It is worth noting that the authors of both posters have come from multiple nGEL consortium member organisations.
Tuğrul Hazar presented the first poster, titled “A Case Study on Integrating Absorption Cooling into an ACC-Based Geothermal ORC System”, on June 9 at the Congress. The co-author of the poster included Ural Halaçoğlu, Geothermal Resources, R&D and Innovation Group Manager at Zorlu Energy Group; Feride İrem Eren, R&D Specialist at Zorlu Energy Group; Zeynep Korkmaz, Senior R&D Specialist at Zorlu Energy Group; A K M Asaduzzaman, Director of Research and Development at Technovative Solutions Limited; and Dr Mahfuza Ahmed, Collaborative Research Leader at Technovative Solutions Limited. The poster was divided into six major sections, including Introduction, Methods, Expected Results, nGEL ORC System, Discussion, and Conclusion.
The study demonstrated a flexible trigeneration model (power, heating, cooling) developed within the scopes of nGEL project. The model successfully addresses the issue of power losses typically occurring in traditional Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plants using Air-Cooled Condensers (ACC). The model also helps increase the efficiency of the plants.

Yiğit Yavuz Bayraktar, Reservoir Geologist at Zorlu Energy Group, presented the other poster from the nGEL consortium at the congress on the same day, titled “Overview of nGEL Thermal Energy Storage for Flexible Power Generation at Kizildere-2 GPP”. Dr Shahin Jamali, Head of Monitoring and AI at Fraunhofer IEG, and the Project Coordinator; Feride İrem Eren, R&D Specialist at Zorlu Energy Group; Ural Halaçoğlu, Geothermal Resources, R&D and Innovation Group Manager at Zorlu Energy Group; Tuğrul Hazar, Assistant Manager at Zorlu Energy Group; and Veli Kaplan, Control System Specialist at Zorlu Energy Group co-authored the poster. The presentation consisted of Introduction, Methods, Expected Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. In the poster, the authors discussed the goal, methodology, and outcomes of the EU-funded nGEL project. The project aims to make the geothermal power plants more flexible. In this regard, the model will primarily integrate Thermal Energy Storage (TES) into the existing system at Kızıldere-2 GPP, an 80 MW geothermal power plant located in Denizli, Türkiye.
The implementation will enhance operational flexibility, support grid responsiveness, and promote environmental sustainability as well.

By taking part in the World Geothermal Congress 2026, the nGEL consortium conveys a clear message to the energy landscape, particularly geothermal energy, that the knowledge will not be exclusively restricted within the internal boundaries. Instead, the partners aim to go beyond by sharing their findings publicly to contribute to a more renewable energy-focused world for a better and greener future.
